Another Shining Path
Another
Shining Path brings together a trio of survivors; survivors in life, but
mostly survivors in their music...keeping the hope alive. Each member of this trio
has been a voice for improvisational music over the past two decades in cities and towns
throughout the world where none existed. The trio, calling itself Ye Ren, has
collaborated on a number of live performances, but this CD marks their first recording.
From Scott Hreha's liners, "Whats in a name? A relevant
(albeit prosaic) question to ask when dealing with a group which calls itself Ye Ren. The
possibilities are endless but always mystical. Yet Gary Hassay the groups
alto saxophonist (and leader if you feel the need to identify one) explains that
the name "has no real meaning." Instead, its significance lies in the way it
sounds. The assignment of meanings comes along with the creative process, some of which
will solidify between the cracks of letters and syllables; others will disappear even
before their creators perception of them. In this sense, the music on this disc (the
groups first recorded output and only Hassays second) is exceptionally similar
to the name under which it was created
the possibilities are endless but always
mystical."
