Bosonossa
and other ballads For five years in the mid-90s, this Polish-Swedish-British version of the Stanko Quartet cut a very wide swath across the European jazz scene. Bosonossa was their coming out party in 1993 that never stopped. Featuring six first-rate Stanko compositions in his brooding "slavic" style, some would say darker than the darkest Miles -- maybe kind of black -- the recording embraces and explores duo and trio improvisations and solos of the highest calibre. This group has an unusual claim on idiomatic completeness. They have an uncanny ability to summarize many of the important developments of jazz for the past 30 years without being regressive or derivative...now that is some tightrope. Comes with our highest recommendation. 6 tracks in 58:23 minutes. If you missed this cd, you might also enjoy listening to: TWET (Stanko, Szukalski, Vesala, Warren) |
