F. Vattel Cherry is the founder of Vattel Cherry's Bassrespänse, a collective of four improvising double bassist/composers. Their first recorded effort was an interpretation of Strange Fruit for a Billie Holiday tribute CD produced by the Baltimore CityPaper.

Vattel has studied with bassists Linda McKnight, Keter Betts and Fred Hopkins. He has worked with many brilliant musicians including, Charles Gayle, Brother Ah (Robert Northern) , John Tchicai, William Parker, David Murray's Big Band, Cecil Taylor's PTHONGOS and Charli Persip's Superband. On over a dozen CD's as a sideman, Vattel has two CD's as a leader, Is it because I'm Black and For Those Who Heal.

We continue to be highly impressed with the development of one of the hottest up and coming bass players on the east coast, Vattel Cherry.  We were the first on the internet to bring you his first release, Is It Because I'm Black, and are extremely pleased to be able to present this new release.

This self titled project captures the energy, spontaneity, and seasonal infirmities of Vattel's current working Baltimore-based ensemble. Recorded live to two-track, one take only and no mixing. Featuring  Evan Rapport on soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones, clarinet, flute, John Dierker on tenor saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet, F. Vattel Cherry on double bass, and Will Redman on drums.
