At the Unity Temple The debut recording from Ayler Records featuring Noah Howard with his long time collaborator, Bobby Few. This is an apt debut recording from a label that takes it's namesake from the great and unfortunately neglected founding father of free and improvised music. You can clearly hear the obvious influences of Alber Ayler and Dewey Redman in addition to the less subtle roots of Johnny Hodges and Ornette Coleman in Howard's planing. On this recording, Howard revisits a couple of his signature pieces, "The Blessing" and "Schizophrenic Blues." This recording also features a rare capture of Noah on tenor sax. One of the real pleasant surprises for us was the phenomenal cymbal work and superb solos of Calyer Duncan, previously unknown to us here. This disc is a welcome addition to the small but growing Howard discography...we are thinking about a dozen since 1966...recorded live at the Frank Lloyd Wright designed temple of worship in Chicago, The Unity Temple, this disc comes highly recommended. 5 tracks in 65:39 minutes :::>>> Tell A Friend About This CD From Drimala If you like this cd, you might also enjoy listening to: That Look (Noah Howard, Eve Packer) Few And Far Between (Few, Morris, Fefer) Noah Howard at Documenta IX (Howard, Smith, Gregg, Henderson) Patterns - Message from South Africa (Noah Howard Big Band) Comraderie (Fasteau, Howard, Few) The Cosmosamatics II (Simmons, Marcus, Lundy, Rosen) Red Star (Howard, Few, Clarke, Pederson, Williams) 19 Moons (Faruq Z.
