Pith
Balls and Inclined Planes An electro-acoustic mix of prepared acoustic guitar, horns and voices, Pith Balls And Inclined Planes is an interesting duo performance. The music is a freeform avant-garde blend of jazz and John Cage, the best moments of which feature Kaiser's horns dueling with Ernesto's prepared guitar. "My Machines Came From Too Far Away opens the disc with a cool jazz horn. The sound is almost standard jazz. But the guitar is completely freeform with Ernesto using what sounds like a sort of plucking method. This combination is the trademark sound of the album and the duo have struck upon an intriguing style. The two musicians seem to be in complete contrast with one another, yet thrown together have managed to find a pleasant combination." -- Jerry Kranitz, Aural Innovations "There's such exuberance, such a sense of serendipity here that I just can't put it down." -- Jon Worley, Aiding and Abetting. "The synthesis of improvised versus manipulated and electronic versus acoustic (the trumpet and the guitar are never heard "naturally", they are always diverted from their original "intended" sound) works perfectly. The level of artistry is admirable, making Pith Balls and Inclined Planes a highly recommendable record and a rewarding listening experience." -- Francois Couture, All-Music Guide This is music of boldly contrasting elements, although the flow of small, rapidly occurring events--particles streams within each distinctive voice--conveys conceptual coherence and fundamental continuity of approach between the players." -- Julian Cowley, The Wire Total playing time 45:18 minutes. Comes in a nice hand-packaged presentation. :::>>> Tell A Friend About This CD From Drimala If you like this cd, you might also enjoy listening to: The Second Sky (Russell and Turner) Trumpet (Greg Kelley) Humdinger (Davey Williams and John Corbett) Tuba Libre (Giancarlo Schiaffini) Brass City (Joe McPhee and Jeb Bishop) Daybreak (Smith, Brand, Marshall, Weston, Bailey) Forlorn Green (Greg Kelley and Jason Lescalleet) Live At Palo-Palo (Kucan, Stanko, Oliver, Danner, Elgart) Points, Snags and Windings (Butcher and van der Schyff) Schnee (Stangl and Kurzmann) Barcelona (Bailey and Fernández) |
