Live
At Nefertiti One of the finest live small ensemble settings of Brötz we have ever heard. Recorded live at the Nefertiti Jazzclub in Gothenburg, Sweden, on this recording Brötz comes as close to Trane's "sheets of sound" as you will ever hear. He also gives us more in the sonic spectrum with his treatment of the lower registers on the clarinet as well as an unbelievably lyrical performance on the Slavic tarogato. Brötz is joined on this recording by the strongest free jazz rhythm section (two-thirds of the Biggi Vinkeloe Trio) working in Sweden. Their playing is simply telepathic. This is music that demands to be listened to over and over again. On this recording. Brötzmann proves, once again as if that was necessary, that he is not only one of the most well documented European improvisers, but that he is and has been truly one of the world's improvisational music giants. This disc comes with our highest recommendation. "The Brötzmann/Uuskyla/Friis Nielsen Trio share a common language: the free jazz tradition from the 60's, the Cry of Freedom once heard for the first time from players like Albert Ayler, Cecil Taylor, Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane. Peter Brötzmann was one of the European founders of that tradition, but there is nothing 'traditional' about the music on this CD. This is new music, created in the moment you hear it. Listen!." -- Sven Gustafsson, from the liner notes6 tracks in 71:19 minutes :::>>> Tell A Friend About This CD From Drimala If you like this cd, you might also enjoy listening to: From Valley to Valley (Brötzmann's Die Like A Dog Quartet) Nipples (Brötzmann's Sextet) For Adolphe Sax, (Brötzmann, Kowald, Johansson, van Hove) The Atlanta Concert (Brötzmann, Drake, Hopkins) The Wels Concert (Brötzmann, Drake, Gania) Dried Rat-Dog (Brötzmann and Drake) Polish Theater Posters (Andrew Drury Octet) Revelation (Joel Futterman - Kidd Jordan) The Milwaukee Tapes (Fred Anderson Quartet) Willie the Pig (Tchicai, Schweizer, Niebergall, Ntshoko) |
